We built a fairy garden this weekend. So Fun!
Here is a decent article on how to build a fairy garden. We added horticultural charcoal to the bottom of the saucer to keep the soil sweet. I don't think this article talks about that.
Here's a link to fairy accessories. We bought ours at a local greenhouse. It wouldn't be hard to build some fairy accessories, if one had time and skills. Maybe next time. :)

Fairy Garden

Soooo? How did you build it? What inspired you? Why is it a fairy garden?
The inspiration for the fairy garden came from seeing fairy gardens a few years ago. The motivation for doing it now the kids have been reading Daisy Meadows fairy books and thinking about fairies.
We bought the fairy house, the little bench, and the teeny, tiny watering can at the greenhouse. In the future, we may try building our own fairy sized stuff,
but too busy with other interests now.
We built it in the saucer of a very large plastic pot. Drill drainage holes in bottom, add a layer of horticultural charcoal to keep the soil "sweet," then a layer of 2 parts potting soil, 1 part perlite, and 1 part peat moss. We used Rosemary for our "tree", thyme for the "bush", and I can't remember what the other two plants are called - just some low growing ground cover. I used some moss from one of the plants for grass.
Now we just keep it trimmed, watered, and fertilized so it stays cute and a little fairy wants to move in.
Sometimes adults add fake fairies to their gardens, because adults can't see real fairies.
We saw a very cute fairy garden at the greenhouse where we got our stuff. It was about 3' by 3' and it had a tiny little chicken coop next to the house with teeny tiny chickens in it - so cute!!
